Freedom and Fashion: Fighting Human Trafficking Through Fashion

Not For Sale All Saints
We often come across companies doing truly inspiring things, working on making our world a better place. Freedom and Fashion is one of those companies.

Freedom and Fashion is a fashion orientated organization that serves as a resource hub for fair-trade businesses and non-profit organizations dealing with the fight against child labor and human trafficking. They work on promoting companies such as Not For Sale, Polaris Project, Falling Whistles, def.i.ni.cion, Raven + Lilly, International Princess Project, and Krochet Kids International that raise awareness about these issues.

Question: How do they do it?
Answer: Through fashion!

FnFLogo.TallFor the third year in a row, Freedom and Fashion is producing a Fair Trade Fashion Show (promoting companies such as the ones listed above) on Saturday, December 17, in Downtown Los Angeles.

UK fashion brand All Saints recently produced and designed a t-shirt collection featuring Not For Sale, the proceeds of which will go directly toward Not For Sale’s work in fighting human trafficking. The collection already has a celeb following—model Agyness Deyn and rocker Jamie Hince have been spotted with them!

Freedom and Fashion is dedicated to educating society about the global social issues of modern-day slavery, sex trafficking, child labor, and human rights violations. FnF addresses these injustices through the purchasing power of conscious consumerism, by increasing the demand for socially responsible and ethically produced goods and ensuring they are readily available to consumers.

12 Days of Giving Day 12 Winner: Nikon COOLPIX S80

12daysofgivinglofo2010-400px
Congratulations to Sandra Rios of Santa Ana, California! Sandra is the winner of the grand prize in our 12 Days of Giving Contest and will receive the Nikon COOLPIX S80($330 value).

Mini-day12
Here's Sandra's winning essay:

If I had a marvelous fashion boutique, I’d donate $100 dollars to the Locks of Love charity. Locks of Love provides hair pieces to financially, underprivileged children who suffer from long-term hair loss. I feel so bad for children, especially girls, who go through this because hair is such a valuable accessory that could change anyone’s appearance. One of my friends who lost her hair stayed strong and kept going to school everyday, even though rude kids made fun of her. I felt so selfish because I’d been complaining about my new haircut being super short and unattractive while she had absolutely no locks. I admire all those unfortunate children because they move on with their lives without their natural hair, something I doubt I’d be able to do. By funding, I hope to boost their self-esteem with the opportunity of having some sort of precious mane on their heroic heads.

Congratulations again, Sandra! And congratulations to all the winners in this year's 12 Days of Giving Contest -- you all did a fantastic job. --Angel

12 Days of Giving Day 9 Winner: Betsey Johnson Necklace and Earrings

12daysofgivinglofo2010-400px
Congratulations to Esther Youn of Fullerton, California! Esther is the winner of Day 9 in our 12 Days of Giving Contest and will receive these Betsey Johnson Bow with Mini Circle & Fireball Earrings and Betsey Johnson Bow Necklace with Heart Drop ($87 value).

Mini-day9
Take a look at Esther's winning essay:

I would give my $100 donation to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an organization that I am currently involved in at my school,  along with my Fashion Club. Operation Smile helps provide free surgeries for children born with cleft lips or cleft palates. Every year more than 200,000 children are born with a severe cleft condition. These kids are unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some areas, the child with a cleft condition are rejected by parents and/or society. In many cases, their parents cannot afford the surgeries they need that would allow them to live normally. By going through 45 minutes of surgery, a child with a facial deformity can receive a lifetime of smiles. Through Operation Smile, smiles can be given to these children. I believe that everyone deserves to smile.

Congrats again, Esther! And thank you for bringing Operation Smile to our attention, and good luck on your promising future in fashion design

Get your submission in by 8am tomorrow (December 18) for a chance to win today's prize. Good luck!  --Angel
