Tell us a bit about yourself and your background. I was born and raised in the small town of Hinesburg, Vermont where I am currently a junior at Champlain Valley Union High School. In addition to my interest in the arts, I have been a gymnast for the majority of my life. My love for fashion has been an equally driving force in defining who I am. Of all the aspects of the industry, I covet the ever so mysterious and sculptural design of shoes.
What are your proudest accomplishments so far? Last year, I took on the project of teaching myself to make my own shoes. There was an unbelievable lack of information of the process available online, and so I took to trial and error, constructing the shoes around my own feet. Since then, I’ve made two other pairs of shoes and am working with a local cobbler to make a pair of leather boots.

What made FIDM right for you? I am very intrigued in attending a school that specializes in fashion, which put FIDM high on my list. My aspiration to be a part of the footwear industry led me to FIDM. For this reason, I am highly tempted by the Footwear Design Program that the school offers. Being a shoe designer is my ultimate goal, so this program immediately sparked my interest.
Describe your entrance project. My entrance project included an inspiration page and six fashion illustrations. The inspiration page was a collage of images from magazines and websites. The collage consisted of many pieces of jewelry, including the Yves Saint Laurent Iconic Arty Oval ring. I also incorporated the quote, “What I love most about rivers is: You can’t step in the same river twice. The water’s always changing, always flowing” from the song Just Around the River Bend of the Disney movie Pocahontas.
From this, I created the six fashion illustrations; my favorite being a deep purple, backless, long-sleeve top with an attached, drop-chain necklace with a butterfly wing pendant that hits at the lower back paired with dress shorts.
What are your career goals? My greatest goal is to leave behind an immortal legacy as a high-end footwear designer in the world of fashion design. I would love to see my designs on the red carpet or in the pages of Vogue. I want my own work to inspire future generations with the same dream.
What do you expect to learn at FIDM? At FIDM's Fashion Design College, I expect to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to launch my own line of regal footwear. It is my hope that I will learn not only every meticulous factor in the construction of high-end footwear, but also to attain the qualification for the business aspects.
