New iPad App Teaches Fonts in a New Way

TypographyInsight002-thumb-600x519-53263 MFA design and technology student Dong Yoon Park figured that the iPad could be a better teaching tool than the old school textbook.

His app, Typography Insight (available on iTunes) displays the finest details of fonts such as Helvetica and Garamond, but allows for the manipulation of letters (unlike a book) so that students can learn the subtle differences between fonts.

"As tablet devices are designed as handheld objects, the screen is much closer to users, and they can provide more immersive experiences," says Park.
