What's New, What's Hot: Rooney Mara for Calvin Klein, Hunger Games Makeup,

Downtown with Rooney MaraAfter sporting Francisco Costa's designs on the red carpet for over a year, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara has just landed a deal as the new face of the Calvin Klein fragrance "Downtown," due out this July. Besides print ads, which will no doubt be seen in Vogue, for which the actress has graced the cover twice, there will be a set of television commercials directed by Mara's Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher.  As for the fragrance, Coty Senior VP Catherine Walsh says it's for women ages 25 to 35 "who see downtown as a place they want to be" and "identify it with youthfulness, edginess and cool."  Edgy and cool? We think Rooney Mara can pull that off.

The Hunger Games_Catching Fire
Makeup giant Covergirl is launching The Capitol Collection,  an exclusive color collection for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire film.  No word yet on what products will be featured in the collection but we do know that Covergirl is the exclusive makeup partner for the movie and provided cosmetics for the makeup artists to use on set. This is the first time Covergirl has ventured into the movie merchandising arena. The brand has yet to confirm a release date, though The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due out in about six months.

What's New, What's Hot: 3.1 Philip Lim for Target, Peter Som for Anthropologie

3.1 Philip Lim
Target always makes us happy with their designer collaborations; we loved Luella and Rodarte and were obsessed with the Prabal Gurung collab. Now the major retailer has announced its newest design partner and we are simply over the moon: 3.1 Philip Lim! *happy dance* The New York-based designer, who never fails to wow at Fashion Week, is set to launch his capsule collection with the chain this September (perfect time to refresh your fall wardrobe, no?), which will include one hundred pieces for both men and women--apparel, shoes, bags, and travel accessories--with prices ranging from $19.99 up to $299.99. "Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution," said Lim. "ne of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire – one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible." Look for the collection in stores and online on September 15.

Peter Som for AnthropologieAnd in other cool designer collaboration news, we're also super excited about Peter Som's collection for Anthropologie.  Considerably smaller than the aforementioned Target/3.1 Philip Lim line, the Som line will feature just eleven pieces, which the designer said were inspired by "social eccentrics, women of style that had a little something quirky or a little strange about them." You won't have to wait long to shop this collection, as it hits stores this week on May 17. Prices range from $128 to $368. And if you simply can't get enough of the Peter Som for Anthropologie collection don't fret--the designer is said to be working on a fall collection as well.

What's New, What's Hot: Vivienne Westwood for Virgin Atlantic, Amanda Seyfried is New Face of Givenchy

Vivienne Westwood for Virgin AtlanticVirgin Atlantic is clearly doing everything it can to set itself apart from other airlines. The Richard Branson-owned airline has just announced that fashion designer Vivienne Westwood will be designing new uniforms for them. According to a press release, the uniforms are done in Virgin's signature red, will be made of sustainable fabrics (think polyester made of recycled bottles and bags fabricated from discarded leather), and feature some of Westwood's favorite design elements: a nipped in, '40s-inspired waist and "Saville Row touches."  Said Westwood, "My clothes have always got a very strong dynamic rapport with the body–they are very body conscious, they help you to look glamorous, more hourglass, more woman." Of course, the airline has always strived to "bring glamour to airline travel," so Westwood's designs will be right on par.

Amanda Seyfried for Givenchy
Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried is a known fan of the house of Givenchy--she was front row at the Fall 2013 show and who can forget the nude mermaid Givenchy gown she rocked at this year's Golden Globe awards or the red tulle gown she wore to the Vanity Fair party after the 2013 Oscars? Now the blonde bombshell is the new face of the Very Irrestible campaign, replacing fellow Hollywood beauty Liv Tyler. "It's an honest collaboration," the actress told WWD. "I'm proud to be a part of the brands I'm involved with because what they do is really cool, especially Givenchy--they're so artistic. And I feel like I have a foot in the fashion industry now." Hmmm... could that be a hint that Seyfried, like so many other Hollywood A-listers, has her eyes on starting her own clothing line?

What's New, What's Hot: Reed Krakoff Leaving Coach, Viktor & Rolf to Show at Fall 2013 Couture, H&M to Tap Market in India

Reed KrakoffReed Krakoff is leaving Coach after sixteen years as the brand's Creative Director. Krakoff is credited for helping the label blossom into the "global brand, anchored in accessories," but wants to focus more on his own label (which Coach helped to launch in 2010). In an interview with WWD, the designer stated, "I’m excited to focus exclusively on the RK brand and to embark on the next phase of my career."  Highlights of Krakoff's career at Coach no doubt include the 2013 American Art Award he received earlier this month and having First Lady Michelle Obama wearing his designs during the presidential inauguration and on the cover of Vogue.  Krakoff will finish off his contract with Coach; no word yet on whether the accessories label has a short list for their next creative director.

Viktor & RolfViktor & Rolf haven't shown a couture collection for thirteen years, but WWD has announced that the design duo will present a collection at the Fall 2013 couture shows. France's Chambre Syndicale, the body that govern's the country's fashion industry, voted last week to include the designers on the couture week calendar. The last time Viktor & Rolf showed a couture collection was in July of 2000

H&M
Fast fashion retailer H&M is looking to expand by stretching across the globe to India. Hennes & Mauritz are prepared to spend roughly $130 million to break into the market, with plans to open an initial fifty stores. India is Asia's third largest economy, and the retailer no doubt wants to take advantage of the nation's growing population. "It is a very interesting market with a huge population and a growing middle class," said Fredrik Olsson, head of expansion for the fashion chain. "We have found and mapped loads of potential store locations." He continued to say that H&M will continue its rapid rollout of new stores across the globe. The retailer is currently the world's second-biggest fashion retailer, second to Spain's Inditex, which owns Zara.  There is no confirmed date for when the first store will open in India.

What's New, What's Hot: Lacroix to Design for Schiaparelli, Free People's New Eco-Friendly Line

Christian LacroixWhen two of the most iconic and influential names in fashion appear together in the same headline, we pay close attention. This week we learned that Christian Lacroix has been named the designer to steer the house of Schiaparelli back into the spotlight. The designer will create a 15-piece collection that will debut in July. "In this persona incarnating a true aristocrat, one finds a spirit where mathematics and literature as well as poetry coexist: Elsa is a sacred sphinx who never ceases to interrogate us while offering us new enigmas as answers," the designer said in a statement.  On the collection being showcased at 21 place Vendôme, the historic address where Elsa once worked and where the house is now based, Lacroix had this to say, "Art, theater and cinema… my wish is to reposition Elsa at the center of her maison and on the stage from which she once seduced the world."

Free PeopleFree People is debuting an eco-friendly line of dresses and tops today, apropos since it's Earth Day.  The new line is called Maheya, which means"from the earth," and every garment is colored with natural dyes made from marigolds, pomegranate skin, annetto seeds, rhubarb, lilac, and natural indigo. Plus, every piece includes a seed paper hang tag made from 100% recycled paper that can be planted to turn into wildflowers. Happy Earth Day!

What's New, What's Hot: Eva Chen to Save Lucky Magazine, Beyonce Chooses DSquared2 for Tour Costumes

Eva ChenAnna Wintour was recently named artistic director of Condé Nast and she is wasting no time whipping the publications giant into shape. To start, she's recruited former Teen Vogue editor Eva Chen to work on several projects for Lucky Magazine, a women's glossy that has struggled in the past few years (the magazine has seen a significant drop in advertisers, losing close to forty ad pages last year alone). No word yet on what these projects are, or whether Chen will be a permanent fixture on the Lucky masthead, but the social media queen and all-around fashion darling will no doubt help to breathe new life into the shopping magazine.

BeyoncePop diva Beyonce has her choice of designers and luxury fashion houses to dress her, and for her upcoming world tour the "Single Ladies" singer is going with twins Dean and Dan Caten, the designer duo behind Italian label, DSquared2. The custom-made design is being kept under wraps, but a spokesperson for DSquared2 confirmed that the costume is in line with the label's Spring 2013 collection, which was inspired by supermodels of the nineties. "Beyonce chooses to wear a unique outfit created exclusively for her by Dean and Dan Caten, inspired by an item from the 2013 spring/summer Glamazon catwalk show," the rep stated. Dean and Dan have also designed tour costumes for Britney Spears and Madonna. The Mrs Carter Show kicks off today in Belgrade, Serbia, and ends in Brooklyn on August 5.
