FIDM Street Style: Guy's Fashion  |   Main  |  Fragrance Trends: Surprise by Heidi Klum

Earth Day is Monday, April 22, and we've got 5 things you can do to make a difference this year when it comes to fashion and beauty, and the role they play in the environment. Check it out!

H&M Conscious

1. Give H&M Your Old Clothes
Drop off your used clothing—any brand in any condition—to your nearest H&M store for recycling. H&M says that every year, tons of textiles end up in landfills, but as much as 95% of these textiles and clothes could be used again!

2. Recycle Empty Cosmetics Containers at Origins
Drop off your empty previously unrecyclable cosmetics tubes, bottles, and jars at an Origins retail store or department store counter for recycling. Did you know that everyday packaging accounts for 33% of all landfill waste?

Eco Punk
3. Support Designers Who Support Recycling Designer, Alexis Chong launched her own jewelry line, Eco Punk LA, using recycled pop tabs. Alexis said, "I love the concept of taking something so commonly discarded and transforming them into something beautiful. Attending a college that celebrated sustainable design influenced me to incorporate my interest in recycled materials into projects. For a theoretical Eco Fashion Week campaign, I constructed two dresses out of 'trash' to promote re-use. The handmade aspect of this assignment was a natural segway into a jewelry line."

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

4. Shop Kiehl's and Support Recycling in Schools
With the Limited Edition Label Art Series of Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, the company is donating 100% of net profits up to $50,000 to Recycle Across America to produce 65,000 standardized labels for recycling bins for schools. Sounds good!

People Tree recycled cotton sari bag

5. Support Fair Trade Fashion
Research fashion brands with sustainable and fair trade practices. Companies such as People Tree make it a top priority. This tote is made from recycled fabric.

Together, we will make this world a better place. Happy Earth Day, from everyone at Fashion Club!
