Dear Career Girl:

I heard someone talk about an "informational interview" the other day. Exactly what is that?

-Dalia

Dear Dalia:

Great question! How fun that you're thinking about this while you're still in high school. Good for you!

An informational interview is an interview in which you ask questions with the purpose of gathering information about a specific company or position. It's great for obtaining advice, making connections (i.e., building your network), and getting experience in the interview setting.

I totally encourage you to set one up. Go forward with confidence—people love to give advice and are flattered when someone wants theirs. Please let me know if you do set one up; I'd love to know how it goes!

Oh, and by the way if you're looking for tips on how to dress for an interview, check out my amazing article on FashionClub.com!
