Name: Weylie Hoang
Campus: Los Angeles
Major: Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing
Hometown: Oakland, CA

Tell us a little about yourself: I love making people laugh. I have four dogs, two rabbits, and one hamster! My spare time is spent with my boyfriend and pets, doing makeup, or painting my nails.

What is one of your proudest accomplishments? My YouTube channel. I am very fortunate to have my subscribers and I'm glad my videos on advice, makeup, reviews, high school, and tampons have helped them.

Tell us more: My YouTube channel is based on what type of video I'm in the mood of creating. I don't try to follow a set of rules because I want my viewers to know exactly how I am. I am a random person! I talk about anything from beauty, high school and relationships advice, all the way to how to put on a tampon. I currently have over 313,000 subscribers and over 31 million video views.

Are you leveraging your YouTube success into any strategic career moves? It helps me network myself. I have been contacted by different companies and when appropriate, I take the job. YouTube has really helped me with networking with companies.

What fashion websites/blogs do you love? I'm rarely on fashion blogs, but if I am, I'm usually reading my friend's blog fashionista804.

How did you hear about FIDM and what made you decide to go here? I went to a college fair during my senior year of high school and FIDM was there. I saw that beauty was one of the majors and figured this was a school I'd be interested in.

What made you move from the SF campus to LA? I am majoring in beauty and all beauty students are required to transfer to the main campus (LA campus) to continue their 2nd year.

How did you choose your major? I love makeup, so the beauty major is perfect.

What are your career goals and how is FIDM helping you get there? I want to work in the beauty industry. I want to start off as a professional makeup artist and work my way up to the corporates of a prestige brand. I also hope to one day have my own brand. FIDM is helping me a lot. The quarter-based system allows no time to waste. The teachers are extremely helpful and are experienced in the industry. Everything I have learned from them, I feel like I can apply to my career in the future.

Any advice for someone thinking about going to FIDM? Go for it. The information I have learned here is great. I've learned so much in such little time. I've learned so much about the business side of the industry, how to manage a company, and how to build relationships with people in the industry. Sometimes it's not about what school you go to, and whether or not it is popular. In the end, what you learn is what stays with you forever and benefits you the most.

Anything else you'd like to share? I dream of living in a beach house or anywhere with a city view one day.
