Tell us a bit about yourself. I am originally from Orange County, California and I will soon graduate from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey with a Journalism degree in May. I was on the basketball team for three years and was on scholarship. I enjoy singing, movies, television, reading and writing.
What are your proudest accomplishments so far? My proudest accomplishments so far are getting into FIDM, and in May, it will be graduating from a prestigious university.
What made FIDM right for you? I feel that FIDM will push me creatively in ways that no other university can. I believe that FIDM will help me accomplish my goals and aspirations. I know people who graduated from FIDM and have nothing but wonderful things to say.
Describe your entrance project. For the first portion of my entrance project, I created a shoe out of shapes using newspaper, black, and a cream paper with script writing on it. I glued the shapes on red paper to make them stand out more. I used newspaper because I love the texture of it and how it jumped off the page despite being gray and black.
For the second part, I made a two-dimensional box and painted it black. I put stickers that reminded me of black diamonds on the walls. I took a Sex and the City Carrie Bradshaw quote, “Some labels are best left in the closet.” I used dress forms to display the clothes. I made a strapless white satin party dress with sequins around the bust. Around the waist was silver fabric to accentuate the waist. The second dress had a sweetheart neckline and was strapless as well. I used a black and white flower pattern. At the bottom of the gown were ruffles and around the waist was a large black bow which tied in the back. I made each dress by hand.
The final project was the most difficult. I used a blank white canvas for the floor and created a Christmas tree out of styrofoam, a fake reef, glue, and colorful push pins that resembled ornaments. I cut out holiday party dresses out of People StyleWatch because it was the holiday edition. I used push pins to let them stand upright on the side of the canvas. They demonstrated where the clothes would be displayed on the floor.
I also cut out a gorgeous gown that cover girl Ashley Greene wore to the infamous Met Ball and had it displayed on a dress form on the other side. I also found a large comfortable armchair and a matching night stand by the tree because most of the time when women go shopping, they drag other people along and now they have a place to sit.
What are your career goals? I hope to become an entertainment journalist, for example an E! Correspondent, or a personal stylist.
What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I expect to learn about the fashion world in general. From the different fabrics to upcoming designers, I plan on taking everything in and absorbing all new information. I expect FIDM to help guide me to the right direction to reach my goals.
