Just Accepted Interview: Courtney-Marie

Do you like this story?

Courtney New FIDM Student Courtney-Marie just graduated from Taft High School in Woodland Hills, CA. She's been involved in her school's Business and Profession Academy for two years. In her senior year she was involved in the L'atelier Fashion Show 2009: History 101. Read on to find out more. --Kim

Name: Courtney-Marie

Age: 18

City: Reseda, CA

FIDM Start Date, Major, and Campus: Fall 2009, Merchandise Product Development, Los Angeles Campus

Jimmy choo oopshi

Jimmy Choos

Favorite Designer: I absolutely LOVE Mr. Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin. As far as clothes go, I would have to choose Betsey Johnson just because her clothes match my personality!

Leopard

Leopard Scarf

Trend you're loving right now: I love, love, love that the '80s retro look is coming back! It's so fun! I also have to admit that I'm still lovin' the leopard prints and one-shouldered dresses.

Who is your style icon and why? I love Lauren Conrad's style.

What is your dream fashion purchase? I wouldn't mind having an over-sized princess Vera Wang wedding gown with fabric and rhinestones everywhere! But if i were to buy something right now, I once saw these gorgeous rhinestone Christian Louboutin pumps on Oprah. Since then, I can't seem to get them out of my head.

What is the most beloved item in your wardrobe? My forever21 jeans. They are so inexpensive, comfortable, and I can wear them with any top!

Hm

H&M

You're spending an afternoon shopping in the city of your choice. What's the city and itinerary? Los Angeles, Rodeo Drive. BUT if I didn't have the money to shop for high-end clothing, I would probably stop by a mall in Los Angeles and go crazy in Forever21 and H&M.

Ghostwhisperer

Jennifer Love Hewitt in the Ghost Whisperer

If you could own the wardrobe of any film or t.v. character whose would it be? I love the clothes that Jennifer Love Hewitt wears in Ghost Whisperer. The best part about her outfits--she designs them herself!

The ultimate accessory is... the perfect shoes to match my outfit. The shoes ALWAYS pull together the outfit.

How did you become aware of FIDM? I learned of it from my fashion teacher Ms. V in 11th grade. I loved her class and thought, "Wow, THIS is what I want to be doing the rest of my life."

How did you know that FIDM was the right college for you? I'm a very creative person and no other college had the connection with me that FIDM did. I love the campus first of all, and just as soon as I walked on campus to do that tour, I knew instantly that I was going there, and no one could change that.

How did you feel when you found out you were accepted? I actually cried. My mom cried. We all cried. It was such an amazing moment. I was overwhelmed with emotion! I couldn't believe that they loved my drawings. The first thing I did was go to school the next day and thank my fashion teacher for everything she taught me.

What part of starting FIDM are you most looking forward to? I'm actually pretty excited to start my classes and meet new people. Unlike high school, now I'm attending a school where everyone I meet has the same passion as I do.

What do you expect to gain from attending FIDM? All the experience and knowledge I need to get out there and kick butt in the Fashion Industry!

What is your ultimate career goal after graduating from FIDM? It would be the ultimate career to take trend spotting to the next level. I can become a Merchandiser. I would be able to make trends into profitable products that meet the needs of my customers.

Any advice for High School Students who want to attend FIDM? Ask your local community college if they have any fashion programs or classes you can take. Find a job at a clothing store. Get any experience you can in fashion. That way, if you apply to FIDM, you're just that much more ahead of the game than other applicants. If you get accepted, you will also know what to expect.

Any final thoughts? Do what YOU want to do. Don't let your dreams set you back. If you fall down, get back up, smile, and keep going.
