Read on to hear what she has to say about her career, FIDM, and the past, present, and future of beauty.
Name: Stephanie Marovich
Major/Grad Year: Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing 2000
Campus: Los Angeles!
Hometown: San Pedro, CA
Are you currently employed?
Yes, I work for Shiseido Travel Retail. Travel Retail is our Duty-Free account division.
Job title and short description of your job:
I am the West Coast Account Coordinator. I travel from Vancouver to Mexico taking care of our accounts in airports and on borders.
I meet with the retailers and our Beauty Advisors making sure sales are up, planning promotions, presenting new products and launches, training, recruiting, making sure we have the right assortments per each store's demographic/flight schedules etc., etc., etc.
What are the things you like most about your job?
The traveling is great!
In addition to my regular monthly store visits in my region I also travel to our office in Miami.
I have been to seminars in Cancun and in Dubai as well!
I also love that I work from my home office when I am not traveling, it's great!!
How did you find out about FIDM and what made you feel FIDM was right for you?
I heard about it from a friend whose sister was a beauty junkie (like me!)
I had already been to Beauty School, got my Cosmetology license and worked at a salon and realized it was not for me. I love everything about the Beauty industry and was such a product junkie from a young age. When I worked in the salon I was more into what products we were getting in and how to promote and merchandise them and how each product worked.
I basically realized I loved the "Business of Beauty"....what other school would have helped me with that?
How did you choose your major?
There was no question about it....see above!
What are some of your top sources of inspiration?
Successful women.
When I meet someone or attend an event where there is a speaker I love hearing their stories.
I get motivated when I meet a successful woman who started where I started and now they own their own companies, are CEOs, are celebrity make-up artists...it just pushes me to work harder and dare to dream!
What are some of your greatest accomplishments?
I am currently working on creating a Make-Up Artists network for So Cal., and once that is up and running I will feel like I have accomplished something great.
I think going from retail to the job I have now was also a great accomplishment.
What was your favorite thing about attending FIDM?
Learning from people who are actively in the industry. They don't just teach from a book; they are teaching you their own life lessons and that is priceless.
What are some of your goals for the future?
To keep learning and finding new facets of the Beauty Industry.
Anything else you'd like to tell aspiring FIDM Students?
It might sound corny and cliche, but follow your dreams!
If there is something you want, go for it. It won't all come easy, though, so be prepared to work hard.
Oh yeah and NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!!!
What's the hottest look or product in beauty right now?
Glam with a sophisticated edge. A lot of deep violets and deep reds for the lips.
I love that we are still seeing the smokey eye with a nude lip as well....that has always been one of my favorite looks.
Smokey eyes are not being used with just black anymore, we are seeing a lot of smoked out eyes using bronzes, purples, and greens too.
What do you see as the next beauty trend?
I think in Spring 09' we will see a lot of romantic and feminine looks, but more fun than usual.
Flushed pinky cheeks will be in, pastel eyes of blues and greens and pale lips....almost fairy like!!
What's a beauty trend that never should have gone away?
BIG HAIR!!! I love it and we should be able to wear it everyday (OK, not EVERYday, but whenever we want)!
I love seeing it on the runways and in photo shoots, it just looks so sexy and glamorous. --Belissa
Wow She sounds exactly like me, I also went through cosmetology school, but realized I was crazy about products not doing hair. I'll be doing the BIMM program in July I can't wait. !!!

I am really inspired after reading this, her job is exactly what I want. I too went through beauty school only to realize I really love the business aspect of it not being behind the chair. I also start in July studying BIMM! Hope to meet you all there :]

This sounds like my dream career. I previously wanted and thought that my dream was to be a Makeup Artist but I realized that I want to be involoved in launching new products and behind the scenes in cosmetics than just applying them on people. I am leaning more and more into attending FIDM!
