FIDM's student body is the most talented anywhere, and if you need proof, just ask Alumni Monique Lhuillier, Kevan Hall, or Nick Verreos. Or simply ask our very own Jessica Silva, who was recently cast in this fall's hottest music video, "Hot N Cold" by Katy Perry!
Jessica was recently contacted by one of the video's producers and asked to be a cast member in the video. A FIDM Graphic Design major with an emphasis in--you guessed it--Entertainment, they thought Jessica would be a perfect fit for the video's glam look. And was she ever!
Playing one of the wedding guests, Jessica describes her acting experience as, "leaning in when the priest asked the groom if he wanted to marry Katy" and "acting happy" along with a lot of "clapping and dancing."
Even more exciting than that, the experience didn't stop there. In addition to being shot on the first day of filming, Jessica was asked back for the second round of filming for the smaller, much more exclusive "New Wave Party Scene." Shot in an "abandoned warehouse in L.A," Jessica was asked to "jump and dance" as part of Katy Perry's inner circle "all the way in the front!"
Although taping for the first day alone lasted four hours, the experience was well worth it for Jessica. The experience not only earned her face time on one of the hottest videos on the planet, but also some hot new friends! In addition to some great new contacts with members of the cast, Jessica got a chance to talk one-on-one with Katy and one of her band mates!
She is "just the most down to earth girl ever" said Jessica about Katy, who thanked her for appearing in the video. If that wasn't enough, she says, "One of Katy's guitarists even came up after the shoot and gave me his email info!"
As an aspiring graphic designer, Jessica also got a chance to meet several other industry insiders with some serious connections. A representative from Capitol Records promised to "send up and coming bands that need their websites done," she says. Meanwhile, Jessica also mentioned meeting "an aspiring actress who works for a graphic design firm."
And Jessica's final thoughts on all this? "Not only did I get to have fun and meet a great new artist, but I also got to network with people who will be beneficial for my career. It's definitely a great experience, and goes to show how a simple music video can be very useful in networking."
We spotted FIDM's very own celebrity, Jessica Silva, in Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" music video... Can you?
