It's Etsy Thursday, the day we highlight the different types of handmade products that people like you and me sell on the website etsy.com.
Anyone can have a store on Etsy, and the cost is super-reasonable.
You can sell one-of-a-kind things you make, or cool vintage things you find.
Speaking of things you make, it's often said that you can't make a living creating art. Well, besides FIDM's Graphic Design Program, which leads to a career in art, tons of people are selling their art on Etsy. And read on as we bring you some examples ...
This Custom Collage Artwork
by cindyg is created for you by an artist who employs your family pictures, little keepsakes, ephemera, old documents, papers, lettering, Swarovski crystals, and stamping. Each piece is customized to the person who commissions it, and her prices start at $12.50 and go to about $250 for a larger piece.
Another thing people sell is photographs. If you're a
talented photographer, you can put your work up at Etsy and perhaps someone will come along who admires your work.
This photograph is called Trees Of Color and it's by CocoArtiste1, who's selling an 8 1/2 x 11 size print on premium glossy photo paper with ultra high definition ink for $25.
Here is a photo printed on canvas: Her Heart 12 x 16 inch Deep Edge Box Canvas by GreenIslandStudios for the slightly higher price of $100, but it's printed on canvas in the UK.
According to Etsy: "This 12 x 16 inch Fine Art Photograph is printed onto finest quality 100% cotton canvas using superior UV pigment based inks. The canvas is stretched onto a 1" deep handmade, patented, adjustable stretcher."
I love pictures of flowers, and I think this one is just amazing.
I so adore the symbol of the Fleur de Lis, which represented French royalty, that I get excited every time I see it. And so I adore this picture hand-painted in acrylics being sold on Etsy by bjenkins318 for $125.
If you're a painter, Etsy might be a place to show and sell your work.
Here's one last painting, just to show the different styles available on Etsy. This one is called It's Possible, and it's an original by tarasartcamp. It's a 5x7 acrylic painting on stretched canvas with an archival gloss finish. It's only $39.
As it's almost Halloween, I thought I'd highlight some of the sculpture being sold on Etsy.
I think the person who created this Wire Skeleton, willobe, is really talented. The one-foot skeleton dangles from a plaster stand and is $30.
Willobe had to be really good with his or her hands to create something so delicate and complicated. Perhaps that's something you could do!
My last pick is a high-quality matte 9"x12" photo print of "Blackened" by Asunder. She has it on sale for the astounding price of $8.99! The original art is by Christina Beller (aka Asunder).
This tiny example of it doesn't do it justice, so click on the link and see the larger example of the print.
And Christina Beller/Asunder, who is exceptionally talented, has 125 more pieces on sale!
Whether you're a trained artist or not, Etsy is a really great place to test the market for your creations.
No one judges you or decides if you can or what you can post.
All you creative types out there, get yourselves onto Etsy! --Belissa
