Gossip Girl: "Desperately Seeking Serena"
Gossip Girl's Upper East Side has seen its share of drama this season, but none more controversial than last night's groundbreaking peek into the closely-guarded past of Serena van der Woodsen.
"Desperately Seeking Serena" introduces us to Georgina Sparks, hard-core wild girl and former Serena confidante, who arrives in Manhattan unexpectedly after a long separation from her former friend. Georgina's selfish, party-centered lifestyle is in stark contrast to her old friend's recent behavior, which has transformed from reckless to responsible.
Against all better judgement, Serena decides to join Georgina in a night out for "old times". The night ends in disaster as she picks up Georgina's phone, and overhears a drug sale that reconfirms her suspicion that her old friend is still heavily involved with cocaine.
Meanwhile, Blair Waldorf and Jenny Humphrey's rivalry continues as Blair rallies her former friends for an all-out attack against the school's valedictorian, Nelly Yuki. Jenny's offer to help her new friends study for the SAT falls flat, and instead of making Blair jealous, little Jenny is stuck at home, grounded by her father.
Jenny's love life at least appears to be looking up with the introduction of Asher, a new boy from Unity High School. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make it past the already watchful eyes of Rufus Humphrey or if Jenny is even seeing him for the right reasons.
On the outside looking in, Dan Humphrey is left out of Serena's newfound troubles with Georgina. Largely ignorant of Serena's past, Dan is overlooked in favor of Chuck Bass, who seems to enjoy his new role as step-brother. Serena and Chuck's relationship is made even more valuable as Georgina decides to spike Serena's drink in a meeting the night before the SAT's. Awakened the next morning with little memory by an unsympathetic Georgina, Chuck saves the day by hiring a stand-in to take the SAT for Serena and save her score.
Nate Archibald and Vanessa Abrams, meanwhile find common ground, and ignite a new relationship that is jealously noticed by both Dan and Blair. Can another Upper East Side - Brooklyn romance be possible? Nate is certainly a prince charming, but Vanessa's abrasive character lacks something in the way of a Cinderella.
Next week's episode entitled "All About My Brother," promises a rumor war involving Blair and Jenny, Serena's monumental secret being let out, an infidelity, and an outing. Is anyone on the Upper East Side safe? Stay tuned to watch the 'Gossip' and the fireworks fly...
