FIDM Merchandise Product Development Grad Susannah Simon had quite a career in retail before she decided that a degree from FIDM would take her where she wanted to go.

She worked as a Sales Manager for Macy's, managed a bridal department, and worked as Senior Level Merchandising Manager doing all the in-store merchandising for kids, intimate apparel, accessories, shoes, and cosmetics. Wow! "I loved all the opportunities the company had to offer but in the back of my mind I still felt as if there was more to the retail industry," she says.

Now she's just beginning a new career at Guess in the Licensing Department as a liaison between Guess and the people who manufacture Guess products to ensure they maintain the Guess image.

Job Title: Licensing Assistant/Apparel Licensing
What you do on your job, and the best parts of your job: My job has many facets. In summary, I am responsible for working with the licensees to ensure that their design process is in line with the Guess image.

I work with the apparel licensees and assist in approving trim developments, sketches, as well as offering ideas on how to change, alter, and offer suggestions in order to obtain the Guess image.

I think my favorite part of my job is the fact that I get to work with so many international vendors. It has been a cultural learning experience that I have truly enjoyed.
City: Los Angeles
Five sites you must visit daily: Daily Candy, Net A Porter, Nylonmag, MySpace, Yahoo Mail
Your Major at FIDM and Grad year: Merchandise Product Development, 2007
Your favorite lifestyle publication(s): LA2DAY magazine. I have only been here a year and it always has up-to-date info on what's going on around here, from nightlife to fashion to art.
Favorite designer: Emilio Pucci. The colors are just so bold and bright.

Who is your style icon and why: Oh, definitely Victoria Beckham. She always looks so put-together no matter what. I wish I could always look so put-together! She is fashionable and chic but does it with class.

What is your dream purchase? I have always wanted a Chanel bag.

What is the most beloved item in your wardrobe? I don't have just one favorite item. Plus, it changes so often with as much as fashion changes. I suppose as far as a staple item goes, my AG jeans are my favorite. They were the first pair of jeans I bought when the whole jean craze began, but I still love them. The was is classic and they fit great!

You're spending an afternoon shopping in the city of your choice. What's the city and the itinerary? Probably Paris. I have only been once and did not have enough time at all to do the shopping that I wanted to do. I just would want to visit all the high-end stores (even though I can't afford anything.) That city is just full of fashion history and couture.
If you could own the wardrobe of any film or t.v. character, whose would it be? Probably Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) from Sex in the City. First of all, she has the most amazing shoes and her collection is very eclectic, it isn't just one certain style.

The ultimate accessory is . . . Shoes ... They make or break an outfit! --Belissa
